Sofia Coppola's "Somewhere"

I just found a link to the trailer below of Sofia Coppola's movie "Somewhere" Filmed in Los Angeles in the legendary Chateau Marmont hotel. Not sure when it's available here.

I wasn't expecting it to be about his relationship with a kid, but I like the trailer. It's got a similar lonely, world-changing, life and love lost feeling that "Lost in Translation" had.

enough already

Enough already with the strange dreams, brain. Let's just say I woke up this morning really grateful that what tortured my dreams all night was not true.

I've been thinking I may need to go to a chiropractor (I've never been) because I keep getting the same crick in my neck that won't go away. I must have slept all kinds of funny Sunday night because yesterday I couldn't move my head to the left at all. It's a little better today, but not good. It would never have occurred to me to go to a chiropractor until we had a professional development workshop about it and accupuncture that made me consider it. Plus, the medical professional who gave the workshop was really great, and his office is nearby my work.

I need to make a list of (not new) movies I want to see because it's gotten quite long now and I keep forgetting:

Cracks. Never heard of it but a blogger I read wrote about it. Has Eva Green, so clearly a must-see
Sherlock Holmes
American Gigolo
A Single Man
that lovestory movie with Miley Cyrus (when it comes to the Byrd or on DVD) I know, lame, right?
Date Night (once it comes to the Byrd or on DVD)
Pan's Labyrinth

Movies coming to theaters that I want to see in the theater:

Sex and the City II
Iron Man II

things i want to see, and the crow

I'm not normally a movie person. Especially not when 2 people at the movies costs more than a meal at most places!

But after being hammered with advertising for nearly 6 months, I want to see
Shutter Island
twisted storylines, I legit want to know what happens, I like a scary story

and also
Alice in Wonderland
star-studded, cool visuals, Tim Burton obvs, classic story

I want to rent:
A Single Man
I talked about this awhile ago,and missed my window for seeing it in the real theater. I can hope it will come to the Byrd, but I doubt it. Colin Firth, gay storyline, the 60's, stylish, Juliane Moore looks fantastic.

I just watched:
Whip It
Good story, watchable, but somewhat unrealistic and choppy plot at times (and I am SO not a plot critic). I really need a roller derby name.

Did you know that Vera Wang designed The Crow's skating costumes?

A Single Man

Ooh I want to see this. A Single Man. Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Matthew Goode.

Julianne is gorgeous here, and I always like her in movies. Matthew Goode has been a crush since Chasing Liberty (who, sadly, isn't even billed on the first page of the entry in IMDB). Colin Firth is always watchable, and I'm a sucker for the Brits. I'm intrigued by the coloring here, the costumes, the sixties vibe, and the idea of personal conflict over a VERY taboo thing in that time.

Gauchos and French women when sick

I keep telling myself I need to make a list of wines I like and carry it with me bc I never remember what I liked when I get to the grocery store. I think by photographing them here, I'll also have a visual reminder. Last night I wanted wine, and knew I liked Malbecs, so I felt safe in trying this one, on sale for $7.99 at Kroger (cheaper than both my favorite Malbecs there).
Gaucho Spur
Espuela Del Gaucho
Malbec (Mendoza) 2007
Argentina

The bottle says flavors rich in plums and cherries with notes of vanilla and chocolate.

I enjoyed it, but nothing stood out to me. It was a satisfying wine. Disclaimer, I am also sick, so my taste buds were not in top form.

-------------------------------

Watched Practical Magic on TV this morning. I'm not a movie person, so when I will watch a movie several times, you know I like it. Such a great story, and Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are great together as sisters. Besides, who doesn't like a movie about magic? And with Stockard Channing?

---------------------------------------------------
Last night I watched The Dreamers, upon review from a blogger and medical student from Romania, I read: Cinnamon & Coffee. (Warning, there's a NSFW image below)

It was a very strange movie, and I think the difference in cultural norms and mores between her part of the world and mine show through in my (and my watching companion's) reactions to the movie vs her glowing review. It was overtly sexual (surprise, was a NC-17 rating) and there were odd themes of inappropriate brother/sister behavior and a bit of homosexuality. One of the leads looked so familiar to me, and I couldn't place him, so I had to turn to trusty IMDB to find out that he was Henry in Dawson's Creek! I knew I knew him. Well Henry's all grown up in this movie! He also eerily resembles Leonardo DiCaprio in Catch Me If You Can. Also, Eva Green is beautiful, her face at once childlike and mature beyond her years in the film. She's also so, French.

There's a part in the movie where Eva's character dresses like the Venus de Milo, and it's very realistic looking.

It seems a shame that the ones on the Internet posting all the wild ideas and photos and comments are not yet adults but I suppose that makes sense bc they are young and impressionable and unbreakable and full of adventure and longing and now I just feel old. I want to stay up all night and talk with bonfires and drinking and smiling and laughing and inside jokes and dancing and maybe breaking some things and sharing and loving and feeling alive and piling of bodies into a bed and sleepovers and ocean and smells and nightime and moons and mornings and sunshine streaming in the windows and breakfast and memories and knowing that today you get another day to do it all over again. To do whatever you want.

I can't wait to see this movie. Did I mention I want to be Zooey Deschanel? If i try hard enough I can pretend to look a little like her. Maybe I'll cut my bangs shorter and get blue contacts.
